The name is a little hard to pronounce at first. But NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month which was started in 1999. What is NaNoWriMo? NaNoWriMo was created as what they call a “daunting but straightforward” challenge. NaNoWriMo rules require contestants to write 50,000 words of a novel in thirty days. More specifically, writers need to write 1,667 words per day.
Each November, hundreds of thousands of people all around the world begin the NaNoWriMo challenge determined to end the month with a word count of 50,000 words of a new novel. The organization draws the comparison of how Fitbit tracks people's steps, NaNoWriMo tracks words.
In 2016 NaNoWriMo officially became a 501 © (3) nonprofit organization.
Hatteras Books strongly supports the NaNoWriMo writing community. Hatteras hosted a contest with writers from all over the world. We asked writers to tag us on Twitter @ #NaNoWriMo2021
