On August 26th and 27th, Team Hatteras and Bike MS joined a community of riders dedicated to changing the world for people with MS along a figure-eight route that winds through the quaint towns and scenic roads of Frankenmuth.
The money raised by Team Hatteras and Bike MS funds groundbreaking research to help find a cure. Your donations supported National Multiple Sclerosis Society resources, programs, and services that give people affected by MS what they need to live their best lives.
We want to extend a big thanks to all who supported team Hatteras for the Bavarian Breakaway! We raised $1,990 to help fund research to find a cure for MS. The weekend at Frankenmuth was super fun. On Friday night, we explored the town and found a couple of route markers already set up on Main Street and even some I am Detroit wines at St. Julian's.
On Saturday's ride, we ended up splitting up as the ride went on. Nicholas and I went on the 30-mile while Don went on the 75-mile. The weather was nice throughout both of our rides. On Saturday night, they gave us a barbecue dinner with shoutouts to riders who have been doing this for a while (some over 30 years!!!) with speeches from some people impacted by MS and the research team working on a cure.
On Sunday's ride, we rode together for the 30-mile route. It was a bit chilly at the start, but seeing the fog was worth it. We managed to finish this one in 2 hours, which was faster than they expected. We beat the cheerers to the finish line. I had a bit of fun hanging out with them after the ride and cheering others across the finish line.
Thanks again to those who donated. And especially thank you to Hatteras, Inc. for making this ride possible. I'm already looking forward to doing this again next year. Anyone who's interested, feel free to email me (jrussell@4hatteras.com), and I'll make sure you don't miss out next year.
